Branded merchandise was one of USF's most fragmented spend categories. A single Consolidus punchout, Bull Marketplace, turned a once-invisible line item into something the university can measure, manage, and improve.
High fragmentation with low visibility
USF wanted its branded merchandise dollars to support Florida-based businesses and reflect the initiatives it cares about. But branded merchandise had long been one of the university's most fragmented spend categories, spread across departments and often bought on P-cards that offered little insight into what was purchased, from whom, or at what cost. USF needed a solution that could support institutional reporting, purchasing requirements, and brand standards at scale. And because licensing runs through CLC, USF needed an accurate picture of which purchases were for internal use versus retail or fundraising, the distinction that determines royalties.
Centralized punchout: Bull Marketplace
Consolidus gave USF a single punchout, Bull Marketplace, that routes ordering through one connected system instead of scattered P-card purchases. That shift alone surfaced spend data the university couldn't see before. Product icons let buyers choose Florida-based and initiative-aligned items as they order, while in-depth reporting tracks spend by individual, department, category, and initiative. And because all orders placed through the platform are captured within the system, licensing activity reports directly into CLC, giving USF visibility into internal-use items and a reliable way to tell CLC what is exempt and what is not.
A once-invisible line item, now measurable
A once-invisible line item is now measurable. USF can direct more spend in-state, document licensing accurately, and account for every dollar, including state funds, by person, department, category, and initiative. USF also benefits from regular communication and quarterly business reviews that support both visibility and continuous improvement.
